How to Set Up Shopee e-Invoicing for Your Malaysian Store

Set up Shopee e-invoicing in Malaysia: get your TIN from MyTax, update Seller Centre, download your fortnightly records. 4 steps for Malaysian sellers.

Shopee handles the LHDN e-invoice submission automatically. Your setup takes under 30 minutes: update your TIN in Seller Centre, and Shopee generates valid e-invoices for every transaction. This guide walks through each step, including how to retrieve your TIN from MyTax and what to check if invoices are not appearing.

What Shopee e-Invoicing Setup Means for Malaysian Sellers

Malaysia’s e-Invoice mandate, administered by LHDN (Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia) through the MyInvois portal, applies differently depending on your role in a transaction. For Shopee sellers, the critical distinction is this: Shopee Malaysia is classified as a marketplace operator under LHDN’s framework (per the e-Invoice Specific Guideline v4.6, Section 2.1).

That classification means Shopee carries the legal obligation to issue and submit e-invoices to LHDN for your Shopee transactions. You do not register separately with LHDN for your Shopee sales, do not generate XML files, and do not submit anything directly to MyInvois for platform transactions.

Your setup is narrower: give Shopee the accurate information it needs to generate valid e-invoices on your behalf, then download those records for your own bookkeeping.

The four steps below cover everything a Malaysian Shopee seller needs, whether you are an individual seller or a registered business. For a full explanation of how the two e-invoice types Shopee generates work and what each covers in your accounts, see Shopee e-Invoice for Malaysian Sellers: Complete Guide.

Step 1: Retrieve Your Malaysian TIN from MyTax

Your Tax Identification Number (TIN) is the primary piece of information Shopee needs to issue LHDN-compliant e-invoices on your behalf. Individual sellers use a TIN beginning with “IG.” Registered businesses use a company TIN issued by LHDN at incorporation. If you have filed Malaysian income tax before, your TIN already exists and is retrievable from the MyTax portal before you update Seller Centre.

If you have an existing TIN, here is how to retrieve it:

  1. Go to the LHDN MyTax portal
  2. Log in using your MyKad number and password
  3. Your TIN appears in your account profile under “Maklumat Profil”
  4. Note it down exactly, including the “IG” prefix (for individuals)

If you have never filed income tax in Malaysia and do not have a TIN, register through MyTax by clicking “Daftar Pembayar Cukai” and completing the NRIC verification. According to LHDN’s guide for new taxpayer registration available at hasil.gov.my, individual registration typically processes within a few working days.

Before entering your TIN in Seller Centre, verify it is active. If you are uncertain, contact the LHDN helpline at 03-8911 1000 to confirm. An incorrect TIN on Shopee e-invoices cannot be self-corrected after LHDN submission.

Step 2: Update Your Business Information in Seller Centre

Shopee pulls your name, TIN, and address directly from Seller Centre’s Business Information section to populate every e-invoice it generates for you. If any field does not match your legal documents, the e-invoices will contain errors. The update is a one-time process: once your details are accurate, all future invoices generate correctly.

Navigation path:

  1. Log in to Shopee Seller Centre
  2. Go to My Account
  3. Select Business Information
  4. Update the required fields based on your seller type

Individual sellers (no SSM registration):

  • Full legal name matching your NRIC exactly
  • NRIC number
  • TIN from Step 1 (format: IG followed by your identification number, no spaces or hyphens)
  • Contact number
  • Correspondence address

Registered business sellers (SSM-registered):

  • Company name matching your SSM certificate exactly
  • SSM registration number
  • Company TIN issued by LHDN
  • Registered business address
  1. Click Save

Changes apply to e-invoices issued for the next billing cycle. Previous invoices with incorrect or missing TIN data are not retroactively corrected. If you sold for several months before adding a TIN and need those records corrected, contact Shopee Seller Support with your documentation to understand your options.

Step 3: Understand the Two Types of e-Invoices Shopee Generates

Shopee issues two separate e-invoice documents to Malaysian sellers. Each covers a different cash flow direction and sits in a different section of Seller Centre. Per Shopee’s official e-Invoicing documentation, both are issued on a fortnightly cycle after LHDN validation and appear as consolidated Master Invoices covering a two-week period.

DocumentWhat It CoversDirectionWhere to Find It
Self-billed e-invoiceSales revenue Shopee collected and paid out to youMoney coming TO youFinance > My Income > My Self Billed E-Invoices
Normal e-invoiceShopee’s charges to you (commission, transaction fees, ads)Money going FROM youFinance > My Income > My Tax E-Invoices

The self-billed e-invoice is your evidence of sales income. The normal e-invoice is your record of deductible business expenses. For accurate tax filing, you need both types. Keeping only one creates gaps in your accounts that become visible at filing time.

Confusing these two documents is the most common accounting error Malaysian Shopee sellers make when they first encounter the e-invoicing system. The self-billed invoice looks like it is Shopee billing you, but it is actually a record of Shopee paying you. Check the document type header before filing it in your records.

For a detailed breakdown of how LHDN’s self-billing framework applies to marketplace operators and what each document covers under Malaysian tax law, see Shopee e-Invoice: Self-Billed vs Normal Invoice Explained.

Step 4: Download and Store Your e-Invoices

Shopee does not send e-invoice documents to you by email or push notification. You access them directly in Seller Centre under Finance > My Income. Both invoice types are available there, issued fortnightly. Per Shopee Seller Centre documentation, you download each by clicking the relevant Master Invoice entry and using your browser’s print or save function.

To download normal e-invoices (Shopee’s fees and commissions charged to you):

  1. Log in to Seller Centre
  2. Go to Finance > My Income
  3. Click My Tax E-Invoices
  4. Click the Master Invoice for the relevant fortnightly period
  5. Use your browser’s print function or save as PDF

To download self-billed e-invoices (your sales revenue records):

  1. Log in to Seller Centre
  2. Go to Finance > My Income
  3. Click My Self Billed E-Invoices
  4. Click the Master Invoice for the relevant period
  5. Save or print

Build a monthly routine: download both document types, name files clearly (for example: shopee-normal-invoice-jun2026.pdf), and store them alongside your bank statements and other business records. Under the Income Tax Act 1967, Malaysian businesses must retain records for a minimum of 7 years.

Do not rely on Shopee’s Seller Centre as your permanent record archive. Download regularly. If access to older records becomes restricted or the interface changes, having your own saved copies ensures your bookkeeping is complete regardless of platform changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to register with LHDN separately for Shopee e-invoicing?

No. Shopee Malaysia is classified as a marketplace operator under LHDN’s e-Invoice framework (Specific Guideline v4.6, Section 2.1). Shopee submits e-invoices to LHDN’s MyInvois portal on your behalf for all transactions made through the Shopee platform. You do not register with LHDN separately for your Shopee sales. Your only obligation is to keep your TIN and business details accurate in Seller Centre so Shopee can generate valid documents.

What TIN format do Malaysian individual sellers use for Shopee?

Individual sellers use a TIN beginning with “IG” followed by their identification number. If you have filed Malaysian income tax before, your TIN is retrievable from the LHDN MyTax portal at mytax.hasil.gov.my using your NRIC. New taxpayers register through the same portal. Registered business sellers use a company TIN issued by LHDN at incorporation, which follows a different format. Verify your exact TIN format with LHDN before entering it in Seller Centre.

Why are my Shopee e-invoices not appearing in Seller Centre?

Shopee issues e-invoices on a fortnightly cycle. If your first billing period has not closed, no invoices will appear yet. If more than two weeks have passed and you still see nothing, check that your TIN is entered correctly in Seller Centre under My Account > Business Information. Accounts with no TIN on record may have invoice generation paused until the information is provided. If the TIN is entered correctly and invoices are still absent after two full cycles, contact Shopee Seller Support with your seller ID and the relevant date range.

My Shopee e-invoice shows the wrong business name. How do I correct it?

The name on your e-invoice comes directly from Seller Centre under My Account > Business Information. Verify that what is entered there matches your NRIC exactly (for individual sellers) or your SSM certificate exactly (for registered businesses). Update it if incorrect, then save. The correction applies to invoices issued after the update. For already-issued invoices containing errors, contact Shopee Seller Support with the invoice number, your correct details, and a copy of your NRIC or SSM document. Sellers cannot self-amend e-invoices that have already been submitted to LHDN’s MyInvois portal.
